Sometimes I do strange things

Performance has somehow always managed to find it’s way into my life. .. Can I tell you why? ………………… Not really. It’s just something that I’ve always done. (It may or may not have something to do with my father forcing me to do an interpretive dance as Mary, mother of Christ, in front of a large congregation at a Protestant Church when I was 6…. but let’s not dwell on that…mmkay? Moving on….)

Over the years, I’ve probably been in around 40 shows. It kept me out of trouble. Well… actually, it didn’t, but wouldn’t that have been nice? :) Anyway, today I was thinking about some of those productions and how much I apparently didn’t care enough to document them as profound moments in my life. I never tried to take pictures or keep souvenirs or anything of the sort. I just wasn’t thinking. Not thinking with my head is probably one of my greatest faults. (FYI: Going through life trying to think with your left knee NEVER EVER EVER works……ever ever never ever…..works. *ahem*)

aaaand AGAIN. The only thing I remember from this scene would be making jokes about “loose stools.” .. ya know..cause they were loose!

Okay… I’m tired of looking for pictures now… and after looking through so many, I’m starting to think maybe I should’ve just gotten a job all those years ago instead..

Moral of the story: Don’t make your children do interpretive dances about the passion of Christ unless you want them to end up like me. THE END.

Things that I miss: The McCarty Douglass duo

Okay, so maybe that quote isn’t real at all…. or maybe it is…? hmmmm…. Marinate on THAT one a while…

This duo consisted of me (your host), and Elisabeth Douglass (who has a different last name now because she’s smart and pretty and the marrying type, and I sit in the corner and make up jokes.) … long story short: We were comedic geniuses. We met our freshman year of college, became roommates, and did this sort of thing:

That would be Liz after we decided to dress her up as a munchkin. If you are having trouble locating where her body parts are supposed to be, the neck of the black shirt is around her waist, and the jeans are fastened around her knees…. and I honestly can’t remember if she’s wearing anything under that pillowcase…… After the ensemble was completed, we went out into the hallway of our dorm where I videotaped Liz as she ran up and down it, a sight that would have probably made any small child pee their pants.(From laughter or fear, I’m not really sure. But there definitely would have been pee involved.) We continued this through various hallways in our building, proud of the reactions we were getting… until a girl we had never met before took one look at munchkin Liz and absolutely came unglued. Liz tried to console her, but it only made her hysterical screams and sobs get worse. After hiding Liz behind a door, I was finally able to get a response from the crazy crying chick.

Upon asking her what was wrong, she said

“I’m afraid of midgets.”

This kind of caught me off-guard and I didn’t know what else to say, so I asked her why. Her response made everything clear.

“Because one time, when I was little…………… one bit me at the zoo.”

I immediately heard munchkin Liz laughing behind the door as tears started to run down my cheeks from trying to suppress my own hysterical cackling. Liz emerged from behind the door so we could apologize.. which only made the girl start crying again and we left as fast as we could from crazy crying chick’s room… with a newfound knowledge of phobias and slight apprehension towards little people at public zoos.

Strength through Music #1

One time a good friend of mine died and no one told us why or how. We were all very young then and didn’t understand a whole lot of anything anyway, so I guess it was just as well that we didn’t know. To my consternation, they buried him in the graveyard right down the road from my house. It was cold and rainy and I remember sitting in my car across the street for the cemetery, staring out the window and listening to this song over and over for about four hours before I finally told myself I had to leave him.

The song is called “Poor song” by one of my favourite bands the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Sorry to write such a sombre post. I was literally JUST thinking about how many times I’ve gathered strength through music and where I would be without it. This may be somewhat of a trend. Don’t worry though.. not all of the posts will be this depressing. :)

… I could’ve been the next Roma Downey. People don’t realize it.. but that woman owns us all. ..Her and Angela Lansbury… and Jane Seymour.. People have NO idea.

Travel Obsession: Norway

When it comes to obsessing over travel destinations, I usually stick to my guns. I know what I love and I love what I know: England, Ireland, Scotland, DC, Maine, New York, Boston, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico… There are so many places that I could visit endlessly for the rest of my life and never grow tired of them. Sometimes, however, I learn about a place that would just be completely EPIC to discover and explore for the first time. This would be one of those times. :)

I can’t even describe it.. so I’ll just let you see for yourself..

Funniest part of today…

Please imagine the following scenario: I am wearing boots..and so is my friend Jerry. I was sitting at work, when he came into the office and demanded a hug… not unlike every other time he’s come to see me at work. I enjoy hugs and therefore oblige him. Trying to go in for the hug a little oddly, one of us accidentally kicks the other in the foot.

Me: “Jerry…we knocked boots.”

*hysterical laughter ensues*

Yeah… that was the highlight of my day. haha. Wanna know why? Because I’m working 42 hours in 3 days… and I think I might be turning into a living zombie. THE END

The sole purpose of this post is to proclaim to the world that my nieces and nephews are, indeed, GORGEOUS BLONDE PEOPLE. …all of them… and though I can’t WAIT for the day when my own little dark-haired minions arrive, I am content , playing with my sisters kids for the time being… :) :)
